One of the best all-rounders in the MPL, Azhar Ansari played a very crucial role in Supremos march to the title in the MPL-II. In a season that was difficult for the batsmen in general, Ansari scored 208 runs, with a highly impressive average of 41.60. It includes a 23-ball 42 against Devgiri Emperors, and a 34-ball 40 against Pratapgad Warriors. Azhar, who cost Supremos Rs 1 lakh, had an equally good first MPL season as well. In 2009, he finished with 11 wickets with his right-arm medium pace, at an average of 22.55 in eight matches. His left-handed batting got him 62 runs at a strike rate of 89.86. Azhar’s talent has been recognized at a very young age, earning him a regular spot in the State U-19 team. He has also played for the State senior one-day team, before eventually finding his well deserved place in the State Ranji team.
