The captain of Sailors for the MPL-III, Tripathy has played for Shivneri Lions in the MPL-I and MPL-II. Shivneri Lions paid Rs 93,000 for this former State U-15 captain, who has also played for the State U-17 team, eventually graduating to the Ranji squad. Tripathy, a right-hand batsman and a right-arm medium pacer, scored 135 runs in the MPL-I, with an average of almost 20 and a strike-rate of 114. Tripathy failed to get any wickets with his medium pace in the first season. MPL-II was a bit similar, as he scored 118 runs at an average of 20.33, with a highest of 49 not out against his current employers Sindhudurg Sailors. He bowled much better in the second edition, taking three wickets, and conceding just 5.26 runs per over.
